The Recession Has Hit!

The recession has hit many industrys including Plant hire group Speedy Hire which posted a sharp widening in losses in the year to 31 March and said trading in the new financial year is more difficult than anticipated.

The firm reported pre-tax losses of £70.6m, compared with £30.5m the previous year. Revenue edged up to £476.1m from £465.5m.

Speedy has been hit hard by the downturn in the construction market and remains pessimistic on the outlook for the sector.

Speedy Hire Teams Up With The Health and Safety Executive (HSE)

Tony Morley (Speedy), Craig Phillips (Big Brother) and Peter Brown (HSE)

As part of its annual campaign to reduce the number of accidents caused by unsafe ladders. Speedy is offering to trade in old or damaged ladders in part-exchange for alternative, safer equipment. The pledge is part of a UK-wide Ladder Exchange designed to drive down the number of deaths and injuries caused by faulty equipment.

From 1 September, the HSE and local authority enforcement officers will be checking ladders as part of their visits, which could see dodgy ladders being confiscated.

A-Plant Has Won The Best Contribution To Health And Safety Award

A-Plant, one of the UK's leading non-operated plant and tool hire companies, has won the 'Best Contribution to Health & Safety' Award for the second year running at the Hire Association Europe 2009 'Hire Awards of Excellence' ceremony.

Paul Burns, A-Plant Sales Director for London, collected the award on behalf of the company at the glittering event held at the Landmark Hotel in London.
